FRIEZE HISTORY
Frieze Harley-Davidson's story begins in 1963 with its establishment in East St.Louis, Illinois. Russell Frieze had a passion for motorcycles and a love for Harley-Davidson. As the motorcycle industry continued to grow in the 1960's Russ turned his racing passion into his life by opening the first Frieze Harley-Davidson.
Over the past 44 years, the Frieze family has grown so large that it had to expand four times. In the beginning, from 1963-1977 Frieze resided in two locations. In 1978, Russ and his wife Jenny made a huge change to accomodate the dealership's growth. The Frieze's moved the dealership from East St.Louis to a refurbished facility in Belleville, IL. Notably, in 1988 Frieze H-D was the first dealership in the St.Louis Metro Area to be remodeled under the Harley-Davidson Motor Company Designer Store Program. As the dealerhsip continued to develop an expansion was needed and completed in 1998. The expansion allowed the dealership to meet customer demands by broadening its apparel collection, home accents, and custom motorcycle accessories. Once again in 2001, the dealership expanded and opened a second location in O'Fallon, IL. In 2002, Russell Frieze, past away and left the legacy in the hands of his wife, Jenny and daughter Etta.
After residing in Belleville for 29 years, Jenny and the family decided it was time to make another move. In the fall of 2006, Frieze H-D announced their plans to rebuild the dealership in a new location. Remarkably a year later in September of 2007, the dealership made the move and now resides in O'Fallon with a beautiful new facility in a great location less than a mile from Highway 64.
Everyone associated with this dealership is proud to be a part of the Frieze Harley-Davidson family. Each employee takes pride in his/her work and this pride will be apparent to you on each visit you make to our dealership.
Welcome....now you too are a member of the Frieze Harley-Davidson Family!
RUSSELL FRIEZE - Founding Father
Russ started this business because he thought it was a fun thing to do. Russ loved motorcycles. He raced motorcycles for approximately 10 years around the St. Louis Metropolitan area as well as Michigan, Florida, Indiana and Kentucky.
Russ had always been loyal to Harley-Davidson, even when the slow period came and some dealers began to sell Japanese products. The only motorcycles Russ ever sold were Harley-Davidson® models. All he ever serviced was Harley-Davidson. The only make motorcycle Russ ever raced was Harley-Davidson. It was in his blood.
When you're a Harley-Davidson dealer in this era, you get to know your customers and their kids as part of the family. He wanted his customers to feel welcome here. Russ wanted them to come in on evenings or Saturday mornings, just to visit and drink coffee and to share stories of recent rides and adventures. Harley riders are a close bunch of people -- always have been.
Russ contributed to his community as well with years of charity benefits including the Illinois Elks Cripple Children's Fund and the American Cancer Society.
Sadly, Russ passed away November 15, 2002. His legacy lives on here at Frieze Harley-Davidson.
